WNEP Meteorolost Joe Snedeker is forecasting 4 to 8 inches of snow in the valley cities, and up to a foot of snow in the higher elevations of Northeast Pennsylvania. Snow will get heavy Thursday night into Friday. Road conditions will depend on where you are and whether snow is melting on the surface or accumulating. LATEST WNEP FORECAST

Winter storm preparations are underway in Scranton. Officials in the Electric City say they are well prepared in case that happens and are trying out a new brine treatment to treat the roadways for the first time. Along with the brine treatment, the city of Scranton has also added three new Ford F-550 plow trucks for a total of 21 trucks. And Luzerne County officials are also requesting that the public report any snow or ice covered county roads they come across, as their plow trucks and response teams will be on standby.


PENNDOT has issued travel restrictions for trucks due to the coming winter storm. No motorcycles & buses, and no empty tractor trailers will be allowed on Interstate 81 between the 380/84 junction and the New York State line, as well as the length of Interstate 84 from I-81 in Dunmore to the New York State line, beginning at 5pm this afternoon. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service until 4pm Friday.
