Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office investigators say three people are dead, including the suspect, at a shooting at the Jefferson Gun Outlet at 6719 Airline Drive in Metairie.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says it started with a single gunman who opened fire on two people.

"We had one initial shooter here at the scene who hit two victims inside the location. Both of them have been pronounced deceased here at this location," said Sheriff Lopinto.

The sheriff says several people who were at the gun store then returned fire.

"it appears that several individuals ended up engaging that original suspect whether inside the location or out here in the parking lot," the sheriff said. "We have two additional that were hit by gunfire and were transported to University hospital. I'm told they are in stable condition at this point in time."

Sheriff Lopinto says detectives are still sorting it all out, but it appears multiple people fired shots, either customers, employees, or others at the scene.
