Jay-Z might have 99 problems but jumping into the sports betting world isn’t one.
The rapper and entrepreneur, whose real name is Shawn Carter, will serve as the vice chairman and on the board of directors of Fanatics Betting & Gaming, it was reported on Monday.
His partnership with Michael Rubin’s Fanatics was also revealed in documents released by the New York State Gaming Commission, as Fanatics has submitted a bid for a mobile sports betting license.
According to the documents, the Fanatics group is bidding against the group that includes FanDuel, DraftKings, Bally’s and BetMGM.
The documents also state that in his role with Fanatics, Jay-Z will “provide strategic and creative direction on the expansion and growth of the Fanatics Sportsbook in New York and across the country.”
Jay-Z is famously a New York native and is arguably one of the most influential figures in the city.
