Cano, who is still on the Mets’ books for the 2022 and 2023 season, forfeited his entire salary this season in conjunction with his suspension.

After a bad 2019 in his first season in Queens, Cano bounced back in 2020 as one of the Mets’ better bats slugging for a stat line of .316/.352/.544 with 10 homers in a shortened season due to COVID.

There haven’t been any plans on what the Mets will do with Cano, but that seems like the least of their worries. With the search for a new manager and president of baseball operations in full swing, don't expect to hear any talks about moving Cano until Steve Cohen makes his hires.

Cano, who turns 39 in a few weeks, is likely not the answer for the Mets to sure up their infield. He could possibly be used as a bat off the bench as his days as an everyday player in the lineup are seemingly over. With the Mets already loaded infield which features younger talent, his role coming into 2022 likely be minimal.

Either way, Cano will be someone to look out for once the Mets find a manager and president of baseball operations and start planning for the 2022 season.
