It is going to take some time for Patrick Mahomes to get over the Chiefs’ AFC Championship Game loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Mahomes was in Vegas on Sunday playing in the Pro Bowl, but the loss to the Bengals the week prior was still weighing on the Chiefs quarterback’s mind.

“I’m still not over it,” he told Lisa Salters during ESPN’s broadcast of the game. “I don’t think I’ll be over it until we’re playing in another Super Bowl. So I’ll use that as motivation going forward.”

The Chiefs appeared poised to return to the Super Bowl last week when they held a 21-3 lead over the Bengals early in the game only to squander it away in the second half and fall in overtime, 27-24.

Mahomes completed just 8 of 18 pass attempts for 55 yards and no touchdowns with an interception in the second half. He threw a second interception in overtime that helped set up the Bengals’ game-winning field goal.

Instead, Mahomes had to settle for the Pro Bowl as a consolation prize.

“I mean, it still hurts,” Mahomes said. “You want to be in that Super Bowl, but you enjoy this. It’s an honor to be in the Pro Bowl and so to be able to be in the Pro Bowl with a lot of my teammates, seeing their families, its’ a good way to kind of cap the season.”
