Things are unraveling for the New York Mets, so much so, that owner Steve Cohen is calling them out on Twitter.
Cohen, who is quite active on social media, fired off a tweet on Wednesday morning that appeared to be calling out the Mets offense following a 3-2 loss — the team’s fifth straight — to the San Francisco Giants the night before.
“It’s hard to understand how professional hitters can be this unproductive,” he tweeted. “The best team have a more disciplined approach. The slugging and OPS numbers don’t lie.”

The Mets mustered two runs on eight hits in their most recent loss and went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position while leaving six men on base.
Yet, it’s the quality of at-bats Cohen seems to be taking issue with, which could also be seen as a shot at the hitting coach.
Whomever Cohen is targeting in his tweet, it is quite unusual to see the owner of a team call out its players and/or coaches in such a manner.
It is evident frustration is boiling all the way to the top as the Mets have gone 12-19 since the All-Star break and have dropped 14 of their last 20 games to fall into third place in the NL East and four games behind the Atlanta Braves.
The Mets resume play on Wednesday against the first-place Giants before heading to LA for a four-game set against the wild-card leading Dodgers before returning home for another three-game set against the Giants.
The next two weeks could very decide the fate of the Mets’ season.
