How's this for cementing your All-Star snub candidacy?

Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner hit for the cycle Wednesday afternoon, the same day that he celebrated his 28th birthday:

Jason Cantania of MLB.com says that Turner is the first player in recorded history to hit for a cycle on his birthday.

Additionally, Mark Zuckerman of MASN notes that Turner hitting for the cycle for the third time in his career puts him into a select group of players to have turned the feat that many times. The only other players in MLB history with three cycles are Adrian Beltre, Babe Herman, Bob Meusel and John Reilley.

Though he's been one of the sport's best offensive shortstops in recent years, Turner hasn't ever made an All-Star team. Turner could still be selected by manager Dave Roberts, but the three finalists at the position as determined by fans are Fernando Tatís Jr., Javier Báez and Brandon Crawford. Turner is now hitting .318/.367/.513 with 14 home runs and 38 RBIs.
