Banes, 65, was struck by a scooter at W. 64th Street and Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side on the evening of June 4, according to police. She died at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital on June 14.
Police said Friday that they had arrested Brian Boyd, of Manhattan, in the deadly hit-and-run. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and failure to yield to a pedestrian.
Banes was hit by a scooter while she was crossing Amsterdam Avenue on the way to her alma mater, the Julliard School. Police said she had the walk signal when a scooter driver traveling northbound on the avenue ran a red light and struck her, knocking her to the roadway and leaving her with severe head trauma.
Banes appeared in numerous television shows and movies, including “Gone Girl” in 2014 and “Cocktail” with Tom Cruise in 1988. On television, she had roles on “Nashville,” “Madam Secretary,” “Masters of Sex” and “NCIS.”
The Associated Press contributed to his report.
