DriveOhio's Rural Automated Driving Systems (ADS) will soon deploy automated vehicles in SE and Central Ohio to gather data.
One Deployment will include three passenger vehicles on divided highways and rural 2-lane roads in Athens and Vinton counties.
The second deployment takes things up a notch: Two - 53ft tractor trailers, with technology that enables them to travel close together at highway speeds and radar to detect other vehicles.
They'll be deployed on the 35-mile US 33 Smart Mobility Corridor, with a private fleet using the trucks in their day-to-day business later this year.
During all of these tests, a professional driver will be in the passenger seat with hands on the wheel at all times, ya know, just in case.
Will the vehicles be equipped with horns as well?
