CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Andrew Berry saw enough missed tackles Sunday and decided to find a band aid to throw on a hemorrhaging defense.
Berry agreed to acquire Falcons linebacker Deion Jones and a 2024 seventh round pick Sunday night for a 2024 sixth round pick.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported the trade agreement.
The loss of veteran linebacker Anthony Walker for the season combined with youth at defensive tackle has led to the Browns getting embarrassed on the ground the last two weeks.
Sunday Joe Woods’ unit was hapless to slow Chargers running back Austin Ekeler, who ripped off 173 yards and a score on his own.
In all, L.A. piled up 238 net yards on the ground and 465 yards in total offense in the 30-28 victory.
In last week’s loss in Atlanta the Falcons netted 202 rushing with 172 of those yards coming in the second half.
Jones, a 2016 second round pick who made the Pro Bowl in 2017, is on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury. He had surgery in May but returned to play in the preseason finale after missing most of training camp.
Jones agreed to restructure his contract last month to free up cap space for the Falcons.
