'Morning Quickie': Gov. DeWine activates Ohio National Guard to assist in North Carolina

The Buckeye state to the rescue

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has activated the Ohio National Guard to assist residents in North Carolina dealing with damage and flooding caused by Hurricane Helene.

“Ohio is answering the call to help Governor Cooper and North Carolina in its recovery," the governor said in a media release. “In the aftermath of this storm, many roads are blocked or completely washed away, so this aerial support will be crucial in getting resources where they're needed the most.”

The assistance was requested by the state of North Carolina under theEmergency Management Assistance Compact, which allows states to assist each other in times of emergencies.

Soldiers fromCompany B of the 3rd Battalion of the 238th Aviation Regiment based in North Canton, Ohio and a CH47 helicopter are on the way to North Carolina to assist in bringing in supplies and personnel to affected community members.

“Ohio is Always Ready, Always There to help our fellow states in a time of need,” Major General John Harris Jr. said.
