CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Guardians are trading shortstop Amed Rosario to the Los Angeles Dodgers for right-handed pitcher Noah Syndergaard and cash considerations. Guardians President Chris Antonetti added in a Zoom call that the team will be calling up OF Oscar Gonzalez to take Rosario's roster spot. Syndergaard will start his career in Cleveland on the injured list but will be in Chicago for the upcoming series.

Rosario, 27, hit for a .265 average during the 2023 season, with three home runs and 40 RBI in 94 games played for the Guardians. He played exclusively shortstop and DH for Cleveland in 2023. His contract is set to expire following this season.

He was acquired prior to the 2021 season along with fellow infielder Andres Gimenez in the blockbuster Francisco Lindor trade. In his three seasons with the club, the shortstop hit for a .278 average, with 25 home runs, 40 stolen bases and 168 RBI.

Syndergaard, 30, has had a tale of two halves of his career, with three spectacular seasons in his first four with his sophomore season his best, hurling 183.2 innings with a 2.60 ERA, and 218 strikeouts compared to just 43 walks.

In 2019, the right-hander started to struggle, with his ERA climbing to 4.28, before needing Tommy John surgery in spring training of 2020. He has since bounced around to Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies before signing with the Dodgers in December 2022 for a one-year, $12 million contract.

As part of the deal, the Guardians will receive cash considerations with Syndergaard from the Dodgers. Per Jon Heyman, the Guardians intend to keep Syndergaard on the roster going forward.

The MLB trade deadline will be on August 1 at 3 p.m. EST. For all the latest, be sure to tune into 92.3 The Fan online or on the Audacy app.
