On April 8th, during the total solar eclipse, SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, welcomed the birth of eight babies. The hospital, located in the path of totality, witnessed the arrival of five boys and three girls between 8:22 a.m. and 10:59 p.m. Although the eclipse only lasted for 3 minutes and 44.5 seconds, the parents and babies will still be able to say their birth coincided with the rare astronomical event. The newborns will be 20 years old the next time a total solar eclipse will be widely visible in the U.S.
