After rapidly intensifying yesterday afternoon, Hurricane Helene made landfall around 11:10 PM Eastern time last night as a Category 4 hurricane.
The storm had maximum sustained winds of 140 mph on landfall on the Florida Panhandle about 45 miles east-southeast of Tallahassee, moving north-northeast at a rapid 24 mph.
The storm is forecast to continue to bring heavy rains today to Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and the Carolinas.
