The Cleveland Division of Police is investigating a crash involving Mayor Justin Bibb.
According to the city of Cleveland, Bibb’s vehicle was involved in a crash near E. 12th Street and Superior Avenue just before 9 a.m. on Thursday. See the video of the crash here.
At the time, Bibb’s driver was “engaged in emergency response driving,” according to a statement from a city spokesperson. That’s when a vehicle’s lights and sirens have been activated, said the spokesperson.
Surveillance video shows the mayor’s SUV activating its emergency lights as it approaches the intersection. Oncoming traffic lanes had a red light, as seen in the video. The mayor’s SUV is then seen being struck on the passenger side by a vehicle coming through the intersection.
According to the city, Bibb, his driver and the other party involved were fine. Bibb was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The mayor’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
Police have not said what caused the crash.
