Dangerously hot temperatures this week in Northeast Ohio are flirting with record-breaking levels. And on Monday, Cleveland broke its record of 94 with a high temperature of 96.
Through Wednesday, if forecasted highs in the 90s stick, there are more chances for Northeast Ohio cities hitting the highest temps for those days in recorded history.
In addition, this is shaping up to be the first true “heat wave” in three years and potentially one of the warmest six-day stretches on record.
A ‘heat wave’ is defined as a period of abnormally hot weather lasting three or more days.
The last time Cleveland had a true “heat wave” was July 2021 and the last time Cleveland saw 6 straight days of 90-degree-plus heat was in September 2021.
The longest stretch of 90-degrees-plus ever in Cleveland was 12 days in late July 1940.
