'Morning Quickie': Sting collects daily royalties from Diddy, Grammy tribute to The Beach Boys, & Neil deGrasse Tyson's dumb thoughts

What's trending to start your day

In a recent interview, Police frontman Sting confirmed a rumor that Diddy still has to pay him $2,000 a day for sampling The Police's "Every Breath You Take" on his 1997 song “I’ll Be Missing You.” Diddy went to Twitter to say it's actually "5K a day." The song was a tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G., one of Diddy's closest friends. The song topped charts around the world and has continued to generate significant royalties.

A Grammy Salute To The Beach Boys aired last night on CBS. It featured artists like Beck, Brandi Carlile, John Legend, Hanson, Mumford & Sons & more. "California Girls" was performed by Weezer. Fall Out Boy did an energetic pop punk take on "Do You Wanna Dance." If you missed it, the Grammy Salute To The Beach Boys aired on Paramount+ as well, so you can go back and stream it.

And Neil deGrasse Tyson, he’s an astrophysicist and scientist, we all know he’s a smart man. But he occasionally posts dumb questions on his TikTok page. He recently told his followers that you can only kiss yourself on the lips while looking in a mirror. You can see it here. Remember, he also tried to convince everyone that mayonnaise is an instrument. Neil deGrasse Tyson’s deep, but dumb thoughts.
