'Morning Quickie': 4th of July travel

Travel nightmares ahead of 4th of July weekend

AAA predicts 50.7-million Americans will be traveling over the July 4th weekend, setting a new record for the holiday. Road trips will be the most popular way to travel, with 43.2-million people expected to hit the road. Air travel is also expected to set a new record, as AAA predicts 4.17-million Ameircans will be flying to their Independence Day destinations. An already-packed weekend of air travel is already suffering from flight delays and cancellations, and with 2.8 million people expected to fly tomorrow. Airlines and the Federal Aviation Administration’s air traffic control operations are suffering from staffing shortages, with airline capacity down 10% compared to the second quarter of 2019. United CEO Scott Kirby blamed the FAA for their problems last weekend in a Monday memo, saying “The FAA frankly failed us this weekend”. 20-thousand flights have been either delayed or cancelled this week.
