Elon Musk announced that the Twitter logo is changing from the famous blue bird to an “X.” “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” Musk tweeted yesterday. Musk has a long history with the name “X,” starting his online business journey by founding X.com in 1999, an online financial services company that people now know as PayPal. New Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino tweeted yesterday that “X will go further, transforming the global town square” before tweeting that the newly-branded X would be “centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities.” During a Twitter Space over the weekend named “We all stay quiet until we summon Elon Musk,” Musk joined just over an hour into silence and confirmed that the logo will change as soon as today. Musk also tweeted yesterday that “X.com now points to twitter.com.”
