'Morning Quickie': When ice fishing goes bad

Scary moment in Lake Erie

The Coast Guard, in conjunction with Catawba Island first responders, rescued four ice fishermen who were stranded on an ice floe in Lake Erie Tuesday afternoon off of Catawba Island in Ottawa County.

The Coast Guard said the fishermen were stuck on the ice floe about one mile offshore around 4:30 p.m., and that all are accounted for.

The fishermen said they had a VHF radio to call the Coast Guard and were rescued in about 45 minutes. The Coast Guard said if the fishermen didn't have the radio, the incident could have had ended much differently.
