Walleye fishing is a billion dollar industry in Ohio. And, Lake Erie is well known for being the “Walleye Capital of the World,” but believe it or not, Ohio doesn’t have a state fish. The Buckeye state, along with the state of Iowa are the only states without a designated state fish.
House Bill 599 could change all of that.
Walleye fishing is a billion dollar industry in Ohio, supporting bait and tackle shops in northeast Ohio.
With hundreds of miles of coastline and 95 million of these fish residing in Ohio waters, it only makes sense that Ohio finally names walleye as its state fish.
HB 599 passed the Ohio House 93-4 on Wednesday and will now move to the Senate.
