Watts has been a member of The Stones for nearly six decades leaving a legacy of numerous hits and sold out arena shows.
“Happy 80th birthday to the Wembley Whammer - Charlie Watts!” The Stones posted on Twitter. “ Leave your best wishes for Charlie below!#happybirthdaycharlie”
Charlie is affectionately known as the “Wembley Whammer,” a nickname given to him by frontman, Mick Jagger, as an ode to his hometown of Wembley in London, England.
Watts was invited to play drums for the band in 1963 by Stones guitarist Keith Richards, prompting him to quit his job as a graphic designer and become a Rolling Stone.
Known for his low-profile, chic outfits and love for Jazz music, Charlie is one of the only original members of the group to appear on every Rolling Stones album, along with lead singer Mick Jagger and Richards.
