If you have a smartphone, you probably got that very loud emergency alert on Wednesday about a severe thunderstorm warning. But if you noticed, it looked a little different than what the emergency alerts usually look like. The alert was changed to specifically mention 80 mph winds and destruction- most of the time, these alerts just say "damaging winds."

This Westlake woman read the alert and took it seriously. She got it into the basement and not even five minutes later, two came crashing through her house! Luckily Jessica and the two cats were eventually able to make it safely out of the basement with the help of her husband and landlord, both of whom were at work when the storm hit.
This kind of heat can bring in a lot of severe storms. Thursday morning, a pretty big storm rolled in over Cleveland and hit the Parma/Parma Heights area, meaning we didn't have any power for about three hours. And for some Bay Village residents, power still has not been restored.
