It started earlier this year with an idea and a phone call. Greg Richards from Browndog Barlor didn't expect anyone at Faygo to answer, let alone agree to a sweet partnership. But they did - and we're all the better for it!
Browndog Barlor, an ice cream parlor, bar and restaurant is releasing six new Faygo-inspired ice cream flavors, created at Browndog Creamery. The six ice creams use 8 different Faygo flavors and include a special twist.
There's Choc & Rye: Faygo Rock & Rye with chunks of homemade brownies and ribbons of chocolate fudge.
Unicorn Swirl: Faygo Cotton Candy soda swirled with pink marshmallow cream, dyed naturally with beet juice (you can't taste it!)
Motown Jam: Faygo Redpop swirled with ribbons of chunky peanut butter
Citrus Mist: Faygo Moon Mist and Faygo Orange with bits of maraschino cherry
Groovy Grape: This Concord Grape flavor has vanilla sandwich cookies mixed in.
Peaches & Cream: Shortbread cookies layered into a blend with Faygo Peach and Faygo Creme Soda
"A lot of people think we use the Faygo pop, and just pour it in (the icream) but that's not what happened," Richards explains. "We actually had their 'flavorologist' with us. So the base of the ice cream is actually the flavor of Faygo. The flavor that makes the syrup that makes the pop, that's what we're using."
Morning show co-host JoAnne Purtan stopped by the Northville location of Browndog Barlor and got to taste all six flavors, and loved every one!

Pints sold at the three Browndog Barlor locations will cost $8.50, with ten cents of each purchase donated to a local animal shelter. Browndog will also be scooping up three of the flavors: Choc & Rye, Unicorn Swirl & Groovy Grape at their locations.
Greg Richards talked with JJ & JoAnne about the unique partnership.
