We are in an awesome show of shooting stars called The Perseids. It ends August 26th. The biggest meteor show night is on August 11th with around 50 flashing the sky per hour.

The meteors are seen in the Northern Hemisphere. Of course areas with less light are best, plus the moon light visual will be minimal on August 11th.

If you ever wondered specifically what creates the streaks of light, “Meteors occur when Earth rushes through a stream of dust and debris left behind by a passing comet (the Swift-Tuttle comet, in the case of the Perseids). When the bits strike Earth’s upper atmosphere, friction with the air causes each particle to heat and burn up. We see the result as a meteor.” More here.
