This is surprising and amazing. The US Navy is commissioning a new combat ship in the Michigan Upper Peninsula. The USS Marinette is named after Marinette, Wis. "The naming recognizes the contribution of its namesake town and the great shipbuilders who bring these ships to life, ensuring they are ready to accomplish mission tasking in support of our nation's maritime strategy."
USS Marinette will then journey down to Mayport, Fla., which will be its port. The USS Marinette is part of the Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet. I wonder if they will smash a bottle of wine on the front of the ship. The commissioning is scheduled on September 16th. More here.
