I've been praising our Pure Michigan state. But as of today we do have several beaches closed do to contamination issues. Included in list of closures are Lake St. Clair Metropark Beach, St. Clair Shores Memorial Park Beach, Seven Lakes State Park Oakland County, Independence Lake County Park Washtenaw County. Hopefully that changes.

The Michigan Department of Environment does great work. Keep in mind they monitor more than 1200 public beaches and over 500 private beaches. I'm no expert but I'm guessing the issues are caused by septic fields close to shallow lakes. More here.
