Local teen who plays saxophone weekly for first responders is hosting special performance for Veterans

For 68 weeks, Oliver Strickfaden has played the National Anthem on his saxophone for first responders in Farmington Hills, and now he's putting on a performance on Veterans Day to thank our nation's vets for their sacrifices.

The special performance by the 13-year-old is scheduled for 7:20 a.m. Friday morning, November 11, at the Farmington Hills Police Department. Oliver is inviting all veterans to come out and enjoy coffee, hot cocoa, donuts, and bagels, and his performance of course!


JJ & JoAnne talked to Oliver Thursday morning about his commitment to giving back to his community and to our nation's heroes.

In October 2021, Oliver started showing up each Friday morning at the Farmington Hills City Complex to play the National Anthem for the city's first responders. He has shown up week after week no matter the weather conditions.

This young man with a big heart is already an accomplished musician. He plays the piano, saxophone, trumpet and clarinet, and has earned a scholarship to Interlochen.

Oliver is in also the Civic Youth Ensemble for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and he was awarded with the Citizen of the Year Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution.
