We have some great coastal communities here in Michigan. Don't forget the one we have close by. Luna Pier is a great destination that doesn't take hours to reach.
I Love the beach, pier, and of course lighthouse. Plus you will come across some interesting fossils. Also just go a little inland for some great food in Monroe County.
