Fun things happen at night. There are kayak tours here that do float in the darkness of Detroit River. These operate between May and October and depart from Fisherman's Marina.
The two and a half hour tour does feature several islands. For safety reasons they do have the boats lit up with LED lights. If they have a kayak big enough to float my huge body I would consider the nighttime float. More here.
