He had no flying experience... until Tuesday. A passenger aboard a single-engine Cessna 208 had to take over the controls after the pilot became "incoherent" following a medical emergency.
Remarkably, with guidance from Air Traffic Control, the man landed the plane successfully at Palm Beach International Airport about 12:30 Tuesday. It had taken off from the Bahamas and was on the way to Florida when the drama unfolded.
"I've got a serious situation here," the man is heard telling the tower on audio recordings. "My pilot has gone incoherent. I have no idea how to fly the airplane."
"Roger. What's your position?" a dispatcher replies.
"I have no idea," the passenger says. "I can see the coast of Florida in front of me. And I have no idea."
The dispatcher was ultimately able to locate his location and helped the man safely land the plane. The landing was caught on video.
