From Rihanna’s rousing rendition of her Black Panther: Wakanda Forever song, “Lift Me Up,” to Lady Gaga’s stripped down version of her Top Gun: Maverick song “Hold My Hand,” the night was filled with amazing music, all of which were nominated for Best Original Song at this year's Academy Awards.

After a touching introduction from Black Panther actress Danai Gurira, who noted that “Lift Me Up” was penned in honor of the film's late star Chadwick Boseman, backed by a full orchestra, RiRi powerfully took over the stage, belting out the moving ballad.

Opting for a black t-shirt and ripped jeans and a beautiful bare face, Gaga backed by a simple arrangement of guitar, bass, and drums gave it her all throughout the powerful performance.

Before beginning the song, Gaga spoke about the song's importance to her, saying, “I wrote this song with my friend BloodPop for the film Top Gun: Maverick in my studio basement. It’s deeply personal for me and I think that we all need each other. We need a lot of love to walk through this life and we all need a hero sometimes. There’s heroes all around us in unassuming places, but you might find that you can be your own hero even if you feel broken inside.”

Other performances from the evening included Sofia Carson and Diane Warren’s “Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman, Ryan Lott, David Byrne, and Mitski’s “This Is a Life” from Everything Everywhere All At Once. And the evenings winner for Best Original Song, M.M. Keeravani’s “Naatu Naatu” From RRR. Relive those Oscar night performances as well, watch them all below.
