It is reported that the tinny owl called Northern Saw-whet Owl is heard this more often time of the year in Michigan. The size of the owl when fully grown is seven to eight inches. It hunts at night because it does not want to be seen.
The Audubon Great Lakes conservation manager Tom Prestby commented, "It's rare to find them where there's no conifers present, but where they like large conifer forests for nesting in the summer, they're fine with just patches of conifers that keep them hidden and provide food for them in the winter. They can even stake out someone's backyard in winter, if they have a bird feeder that's attracting a lot of mice." See more here.
