As seen in a video shared online, Diddy was heard telling Busta Rhymes that the battle will go down September 8 at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. “We’re gon’ have you out the rafters flying out the sky,” Diddy told Busta, as well as Fabolous who also stood alongside them.
While Diddy might have been quick to announce, VERZUZ co-founders Timbaland and Swizz Beatz have yet to formally confirm anything. But regardless, we’ll take Diddy’s word.
Last August during one of Puff’s IG Lives, he invited Dupri to join and the two ended up agreeing to put their catalogs to the test.
Feeling confident about his chances in a head-to-head, Diddy said, “JD, if you want that smoke, you can get that smoke anytime.” Dupri hit Diddy with a “relax,” before agreeing to set up an event in his hometown of Atlanta. But rather than the usual battle set up, Diddy suggested to showcase the history of Bad Boy Records and So So Def Recordings by playing their respective labels’ hits with no drama.
“Since we ain’t f***ing with VERZUZ no more since ’cause they f***ing around with our boys, we don’t need to be going against each other,” Diddy said at the time. “Let’s come together and do that Bad Boy, So So Def in Atlanta. It ain’t no VERZUZ, it’s just hit for hit.” To which Dupri replied, “Let’s do it.”
And now we find ourselves here. So whether or not it's Diddy VERZUZ Dupri or just a showcase of recordings, something is going down this September, so get prepared.
