Jeezy and Jeannie Mai are married!
The Grammy-nominated rapper and the “Real” daytime TV show host tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in their home in Atlanta on March 27, according to Vogue.
Though the COVID-19 pandemic altered their original wedding plans of getting married at Lake Como or in the South of France, the couple told the publication they wanted to go through with the ceremony and celebrate with their loved ones.
"We were really looking forward to having all of our friends and family there to celebrate," Mai said. "But we had to change all of our wedding plans due to COVID. After Jeezy's mother unexpectedly passed, we quickly learned that life is too short. And at the end of the day, Jeezy and I really just wanted to become husband and wife."
With safety being their number one priority, they had all the guests undergo COVID-19 tests before attending what they referred to as a “mini-mony” (a mini-ceremony).
“Once everyone was tested and confirmed negative, our guests were shuttled to the surprise location—our home,” she explained.
“We exchanged our vows in front of our immediate family and a few close friends," Mai revealed.
She wore a custom nude Galia Lahav gown along with a 15-foot veil from the designer, while Jeezy wowed in a champagne blush suit from his favorite designer, Teofilo Flort.
Per the magazine, guests were asked to wear off white, which the couple said represented “the peace in their union.”
There was also a cultural twist on the big day as the couple participated in a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony to pay respects to their parents.
“He led Jeezy and I in a ritual performed at Vietnamese weddings,” Mai said referring to her brother. “In this ceremony, we honored our parents by pouring tea as a gesture to welcome Jeezy into my family, and me into his. Then we paid our respects to our parents and ancestors by bowing four times, each one symbolizing a significant gift in the life that they have provided us with.”
Tyrese serenaded the couple for their first dance to “Sweet Lady.”
The ceremony was followed by an evening of dancing to “a live band” performing their favorite songs.
The couple, who met on the set of the talk show in 2018, got engaged in March 2020.
Jeezy was originally supposed to propose during a trip to Vietnam, but when that was cancelled due to the pandemic, he planned a romantic Vietnam-themed quarantine date instead.
The couple used their registry to support Stop Asian Hate, a nonprofit organization that logs incidents of discrimination, hate and xenophobia against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States. It also provides funding for Asian-owned businesses and foundations, per PEOPLE.
