The rapper finished the night with a total of four trophies as he swept every category he was nominated in. Those categories were; Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, Best Live Performer and Video Director of the Year alongside Dave Free.
His gains quickly grew as he made history with all four by becoming the first rapper to secure three Hip Hop Artist of the Year wins while also celebrating his ninth trophy for Lyricist of the Year. Additionally, his win for Best Live Performer marked his fourth and tied him with Kanye West and JAY-Z for most wins in the category. His shared win with Free also marks the first directors to win back-to-back years since 2012.
While he was definitely the most awarded during Tuesday night’s show, Lamar wasn’t the only big winner of the night. Lil Uzi Vert and Metro Boomin as well as collaborations by Drake & 21 Savage and Lil Durk featuring J. Cole, each snagged two awards at the show.
