Singer and actor, Tyrese Gibson took to Instagram to call for the support of Black fathers, service leaders and major media corporations to rally in support against Judge Kevin M. Farmer, who he accuses of being “racist” and participating in "illegal practices."
“This is me wanting to invite the press and the media,” he shared, explaining that he wants to open this case up and “bring the cameras up in here.” The “Sweet Lady” singer took a passionate stance in the 40-minute live video pleading with all fathers, especially those who have dealt with the family law court system.
“I’m not even doing this for me, I’m doing this for all of the fathers,” he mentioned before explaining how often fathers, especially Black fathers, struggle with receiving custodial rights and being treated equally to mothers in family court cases.
“I want y’all to understand that there is a very big difference in somebody going into a court system as a Black man and as a Black father,” he said before explaining that all he wants is to be able to maintain a healthy relationship with his children.
Tyrese and Samantha Lee announced they were filing for divorce back in December 2022 and share a three-year-old daughter named Soraya.
As the rant continued, he revealed that he has had to fight to do things the legal way and hold others accountable.
“But when you have a racist. An obvious, blatant racist sitting on the stand as a judge, that doesn’t sit well with me,” he said before explaining some of the situations he felt Judge Farmer was being racist, unprofessional, and participating in illegal practices.
Gibson’s first grievance he explained, was Judge Farmer referring to Samantha as a “b****,” in his chambers in front of Gibson’s attorney, Tanya Mitchell Graham and her associates. “I have never referred to the mother of my child as a b****,” he continued, adding that not only was this incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful but he just also couldn't believe someone in his position would refer to anyone in such a way.
He then goes on to his second grievance, explaining how Judge Framer has practiced illegal acts in the courtroom by getting all of the court documents sealed. “In the state of Georgia, if a case gets sealed it needs to be a request from my attorney or her attorneys and after they make the request to seal the case, then we actually have to go in for a hearing and present why we want the case to be sealed to the judge and then the judge is supposed to either say yes or no to it… This man abused his power,” he said.
Gibson began seeking the recusal of Judge Farmer after a heated court hearing in August 2022 which led to him being ordered to pay $10,690 a month for three-year-old Soraya.
Throughout the live, he calls on the community to join him in support, Tuesday at the Fulton County Courthouse. He also asked many notable community figures such as Attorney Benjamin Crump, Martin Luther King III, the Nation of Islam and more to join him in prayer before his hearing tomorrow.
