CBS Sports College football analyst Brian Jones joined Dukes & Bell and talked about the national championship game Monday night and just how close UGA is to Alabama.
Jones talked about how far UGA is from the level that Bama is at.
“I picked them versus Bama earlier in the season, they made me look good in the first half," said Jones. "My man Stetson Bennett starting looking like a Stetson hat. That was about it because he was all hat and no cattle. He just couldn’t make those throws that JT Daniels could make. You get that piece right, you’re cooking with gas.
"I’m not saying he’s got to be up there with Mac Jones, but you got to be an accurate passer, got to be a consistent passer. I agree Georgia’s been in that number, they’ve been there played Alabama terribly close just coming up short. They know what to do, Kirby Smart having been there at Alabama knows how to build a program.”
Jones continued his Alabama-UGA comparison:
“Georgia’s right there, they’re close, there’s a reason I picked them to win against Bama. That defense was just unstoppable early on, just fell apart against that balanced offense against Bama. But they’re built similar, mirror images of each other. Just a better piece at the quarterback position, definitely some better pieces at the wide receiver position because those guys Pickens and others didn’t step up in that Bama game.”
