While the Tigers' offense improved in 2020 -- by a pretty good clip, too -- they continued to flail against righties.
Detroit finished second to last in the AL in both average (.227) and OPS (.655) against right-handed pitchers.
The signing of Robbie Grossman should help. He tuned up righties last year in a breakout season. Another signing would help further: Mitch Moreland.
The Tigers are 'among the current suitors' for the free agent first baseman, according to ESPN, along with the Red Sox, Rockies and Pirates.
The lefty-swinging Moreland, an All-Star in 2018, hit .251 with an .807 OPS over the last three seasons with the Red Sox and Padres. His OPS over the same span against righties: .856. That ranks eighth among qualified first basemen.
No wonder the Tigers are in on him.

Moreland, 35, has played some outfield in the past, but he's a 1B/DH at this point in his career. He could split time at first with Jeimer Candelario, who's proven to hit lefties better than righties.
A decision by Moreland, a Gold Glover at first base in 2016, probably won't come until some of the bigger dominos at DH -- ahem, Nelson Cruz -- start to fall in a slow free agent market.
