A new study by researchers in Florida is showing some promise in healing diseased coral reef in our seas. The common antibiotic, often used by humans, called amoxicillin has been shown to be 95% effective in treating "stony coral tissue loss". This disease has impacted 20 different species of coral and has spread throughout Florida's Coral Reef and parts of the Caribbean.
While the medication won't prevent the disease, it has shown the ability to treat it in the coral that has contracted it.
