BUSINESS STORY
For 40,000 CT residents, there's great holiday mail on the way.
No, it's not another gift from Aunt Trudy or Cousin Jimmy.
Tens of thousands of you will be getting an envelope from Gov Ned, and once you open it you’ll be saying, “Wait…what?!”
This letter will be saying that your medical debt is being erased.
More than $63 million in medical bills will be forgiven,
This is the third round of debt-erasure magic, bringing the total to about 160,000 people with almost $200 million wiped away since the first notice went out last winter.
Here’s the best part: folks don’t even have to apply — if your debt qualified, a letter just shows up saying it’s gone. It’s like financial Christmas, only without the fruitcake.
This is happening through a partnership with a nonprofit called Undue Medical Debt, which helps negotiate with hospitals to buy and erase debt.
So keep an eye on your mailbox — there might be very good news in an envelope with your name on it.
That’s medical debt getting erased, not just postponed.
It’s real relief hitting Connecticut mailboxes and relieving your wallet.
