Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts on the UConn Storrs campus will celebrate the debut of its new Steinway Model D Concert Grand Piano with a chamber music concert featuring Angelina Gadeliya, renowned coordinator of keyboard studies and professor of piano in the UConn School of Fine Arts, and the Decoda chamber ensemble, an Affiliate Ensemble of Carnegie Hall, on Sunday at 3 pm. The program will include works by Mozart, Clara Schumann and Robert Schumann. This special performance will be presented at no cost by the Lenard Chamber Music Endowment. The Connecticut State Department of Education’s Greater Hartford Regional School Choice Office (RSCO) is hosting a FREE family friendly event on Saturday for Connecticut families to learn about the public Pre-K through Grade 12 school choice opportunities in the Greater Hartford Region.  Families can speak with representatives from RSCO’s 40+ themed magnet schools (e.g., STEM, performing arts, dual language), Open Choice school districts, and 3 regional technical high schools, and find the perfect public school to fit their child’s individual needs, interests, and passions. Also learn about transportation, sports, and extracurricular activities. The event is the perfect time to explore schools and learn how to apply before the RSCO application for the ‘25- ‘26 school year closes on February 7. The amazing Winter Lantern Festival that is happening at Lyman Orchards. It’s a whimsical walk-through experience where visitors can step into a dazzling world of light with over 1,000 Chinese lanterns, all handmade by artisans with decades of experience.

The Railroad Hobby Show is Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 10am-4pm at the Better Living Center, Young & Stroh Building at the Big E.  This show is considered the largest show of its kind in North America. The event features real life railroads and scale model railroads, historical societies, travel agencies, art shows, flea market dealers, importers, manufacturers and photographers.
Modelers’ exhibits will display outstanding handiwork on layouts ranging from the tiny Z scale which fits on a coffee table, a monster 80 foot N-Trak system, to our own Amherst Belt Lines Modular layout that boasts 8+ scales miles of track. There are a series of hands-on clinics at the show allowing folks to see how much fun this hobby can be!
