FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Fairfield University is retesting students and stafffor the new coronavirus after school officials discovered that some previoustest results might have been erroneous or sent to the wrong patients. In a statement to the school community, Fairfield officials said they will nolonger use that lab and are advising anyone who has already taken a saliva testfor the school to disregard their results. The school said it has brought in 35 rapid testing machines from AbbotLaboratory and will be retesting members of the school community on site withswap tests that will give results in 15 minutes. The school said the machinescan process up to 800 tests a day. Students and staff also are being given the option of getting their own testsfrom another provider and submitting the results to the school through itswebsite. Students begin moving back to campus on Monday, with classes set to start onSept. 1. The school said anyone who receives a positive test result will be asked toreturn home if possible. Anyone who lives further than 300 miles from the schoolor can't go home for another reason will be quarantined on campus.
