(West Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - It seems a bear in one area town didn't want to wait for spring to arrive before making its presence known.
West Hartford police say they received the call around 7:30 this morning to a home on Lostbrook Road.
There was a report of a bear sleeping in the backyard of the residence.
The town's animal control officer was also dispatched, after which the bear made its way up a tree where it stayed for several hours.
Police say the bear did not show any signs of aggression and after consulting with experts from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, it was decided that it was best to leave the bear in the tree for the time being.
Residents were encouraged give the bear space and to call 911 should the animal become aggressive.
