HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - The Connecticut Board of Regents will consider tuition hikes for the state's four regional universities at a meeting today.

Under the plan, tuition and mandatory fees for Central, Southern, Eastern, and Western Connecticut State Universities would increase an average of 4.4% or $479 for in-state undergrads, and 3.6% or $860 for in-state students living on campus. The proposed increases would take effect next fall.

Without additional state funding, officials warn the tuition increase could still leave the universities with a budget gap of more than $20 million.

The meeting gets underway at 10am in Hartford.
