WASHINGTON, DC (WTIC) - Members of Connecticut's congressional delegation are expressing optimism ahead of a gun control vote in the House.
The gun control bills, which will be brought to a vote by House Democrats this week, would require background checks before the sale or transfer of firearms. Democratic Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal says approval in the House would create momentum for the possibility of a vote in the Republican-controlled Senate.
"The more votes we have in the House this week, the better our chances are in the United States Senate. Don't let anyone tell you we can't do it."
GOP lawmakers who control the Senate, however, have successfully prevented significant gun control measures from coming up for votes in recent years.
