WATERBURY, Conn. (WTIC) – Crystal McGrath and Lester Joy have been extradited back to Connecticut.

The mother and her boyfriend were being held in Texas after traveling to Mexico with three minor children.  The incident stemmed from February 16th of this year where McGrath and Joy took the children from a DCF supervised visitation in Connecticut.

The two departed the state with the children and ultimately fled the country to Mexico.

After a lengthy investigation involving multiple local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, McGrath and Joy – along with the three children – were found safe in Mexico.

Mexican Federal Police worked with the United States Marshal’s Service to transport the two adults to the Denton County Sheriff’s Department in Texas.

The three children were returned to their guardian with the help and coordination of DCF.

Waterbury Police applied arrest warrants for the two adults, as both were booked and charged with three counts each of Custodial Interference and Risk of Injury.

The two are being held on a $500,000 bond and await arraignment in Waterbury.
