WESTPORT, Conn. (WTIC) – At 12:41 p.m., members of the Westport Fire Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a truck that rolled over.
Responding crews reported a roll off dumpster truck had left its hoist in the raised position. As a result, the truck struck the Hillspoint Road overpass and rolled over.
The driver of the truck freed himself from the vehicle and Westport EMS workers responded to transport the driver to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Additionally, firefighters found a hydraulic fluid leak that could not be stopped. Fire crews applied speedy dry, hazmat pads and hazmat booms to contain the spill from the vehicle powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
Firefighters shut down the CNG fuel system and determined there was no leak while CT DEEP officials coordinated and oversaw the hazardous materials clean up.
The Connecticut DOT assessed the damage to the bridge and determined that it could remain open while State Police assisted with traffic control.
Fire officials cleared the scene at 2:45 while CT DEEP, CT DOT, and State Police remained to coordinate the spill cleanup.
