
WESTPORT, Conn. (WTIC) – Westport Fire workers rescued a person and their pet dog stuck in nearly two feet of mud on the Saugatuck River.
Assistant Fire Chief Brian Meadows confirmed the incident occurred Tuesday afternoon around 5:30.
Using an Inflatable Rapid Deployment Craft (RDC), firefighters were able to enter the mud and rescue the victim. Fire and Police Marine units were also dispatched to the scene, as the victim and their dog were freed from the mud and brought to safety on shore.
Westport EMS evaluated the victim while the dog was evaluated by Westport Animal control. Emergency crews cleared the scene shortly after 6:30.
