(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - Flu continues to hold tough in Connecticut.

According to the state Department of Public Health, activity continues to remain widespread.

Experts say that's because the season hit in two waves this year.

In fact, its the longest season in the last five years.

If there's any saving grace it's that deaths on connecticut are down considerably from where they were a year ago when well over 100 succumbed.

One new death was reported for the week ending last Saturday, bringing this seasons number to 69.

There've been just over 96-hundred flu cases logged this season, with over 32-hundred requiring hospitalization.

New Haven, Hartford and Fairfield Counties continue to lead with the most flu cases reported.
